RAZORTV'S iPhone application has become the top downloaded application for news in Singapore's Apple iTunes store.
Launched on April 23, it has been No. 1 since Tuesday, surpassing The Wall Street Journal and Channel NewsAsia in the list of downloaded free applications for news.
Its success does not surprise RazorTV editor Jonathan Ng, 35. 'We are the only news portal that offers local content specially tailored for the mobile device,' he said.
He added that the speed in which the application got to the top spot was testament to RazorTV's quality and relevance.
The Straits Times' iPhone application remained the top downloaded application in the iTunes store for nearly a month after it was introduced on Jan 10.
Users of RazorTV's iPhone application will have access to four categories of videos - the latest uploaded onto the website (www.razortv.com.sg), the most popular as rated by viewers, news clips and RazorTV editor's picks.
These include RazorTV programmes such as its news and current affairs shows Point Blank and Paper Cut.
Each video clip runs between four and five minutes, and loads with little or no buffer time on a Wi-Fi network.
3G users will find it takes less than a minute to download each clip, which averages about 7MB.
The application has a 'sharing' feature, which lets users share videos with their friends via Twitter or e-mail with a single tap of the screen.
